Our Favourite Side Dishes to Serve with Chicken Pies

Mashed Potato

Potatoes, potatoes, glorious potatoes! The great thing about them is how versatile they are. You can roast them, mash them, boil them, fry them - have them whichever way you like them best. We think a buttery mash works wonders when served alongside a chicken pie. It's smooth, buttery and slightly salted, making it perfectly paired against the creamy filling and crumbly texture - a match made in heaven!

Carrot and Parsnip Mash

Sweet and succulent and packed full of goodness, carrot and parsnip mash will not disappoint. A great alternative to mashed potatoes, a carrot and parsnip mash gives a warming, earthy flavour, and a sweetness that goes great alongside a hearty, savoury chicken pie.

Chips

Pie and chips is a classic meal that has earned its place in the British culinary hall of fame. Hot, salty beer-battered chips are among our favourites, with a crisp outside and fluffy inside that works perfectly with the creamy, meaty chicken pie. They are great for mopping up the sauce too. If you fancy something a little different, southern fried potatoes are a great alternative with their tasty southern-style seasoning!

Green Vegetables

Green vegetables are excellent companions to chicken pies, as they add freshness, colour, and a healthy balance to the meal. Here's a list of green vegetables that pair wonderfully with chicken pies:

  • Peas: sweet and vibrant, peas bring a pop of colour and a burst of natural sweetness that complements the savoury flavours of chicken pies.
  • Broccoli: with its mild bitterness and crisp texture, broccoli adds a satisfying crunch and a nutritious element to the dish.
  • Spinach: tender and versatile, spinach provides a delicate, earthy taste and a vibrant green hue that beautifully contrasts with the golden pastry of the pie.
  • Green Beans: whether blanched or sautéed, green beans offer a satisfying crunch and a subtle sweetness that complements the rich flavours of chicken pies.
  • Asparagus: with its distinct flavour and tender texture, asparagus lends a touch of elegance to the meal. It adds a slightly nutty taste and a beautiful pop of green colour.
  • Brussels Sprouts: when roasted or sautéed, Brussels sprouts become wonderfully caramelized and bring a slightly bitter, yet enjoyable taste to the plate.
  • Courgette: sliced or diced courgette is a versatile vegetable that adds a mild, fresh taste and a hint of moisture to the chicken pie ensemble.
