The British Pie Awards are the Oscars of the pie world. They are held in Melton Mowbray, the spiritual capital of pies, and are a 'celebration of the craft and skill of the British Piemaker.'
This year, 813 pies were entered into 23 categories, with every class being hotly contested.
It was a rollercoaster of emotion, but it was worth the agony!
Mud's Champion Pies!
Mud’s Chip Shop Chicken Curry Pie (as seen on ITV’s This Morning!) won CLASS CHAMPION in the Fish and Chip Shop category. But not only that, our Game Pie also won CLASS CHAMPION in the Speciality Meat and Game category.
A double bubble!
And our Pulled Pork in Sticky BBQ Sauce won Highly Commended, which is second place and a great honour. We also won several gold, silver and bronze medals for our other pies.
Christian, Mud's Founder and Chief Pie Maker, was at the awards ceremony with Nik, our Team Leader. They were both cock-a-hoop! Christian said, “I’m chuffed to bits. We have won Class Champion before but we’ve never won two trophies in one go! And it was lovely having Nik there to share the success – he oversees the whole pie-making process and is passionate about upholding Mud's exacting standards. But, of course, it’s a team effort and I’m so proud of everyone at Mud.”
